Are you a student thinking about a career as a forensic scientist? If so, join us for an opportunity to get academic and career advice from a panel of forensic specialists from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Criminalistics Laboratory. During this interactive Q&A session, students will have the chance to ask questions about coursework, internships, college and certificate programs, and anything else about becoming a successful forensic scientist!
Â
Parents, teachers, and mentors are also encouraged to participate.
Kelly has been working in forensic science performing DNA testing since 2001, 18 of those years working at JCSOCL. She has worked thousands of cases, introduced new technologies, and mentored incoming forensic scientists. Due to her background in kinship and paternity DNA testing, she was asked to participate in the victim identifications of Hurricane Katrina.Â
Aaron has been with JCSOCL for three years. Aaron's path to forensic science began after transitioning out of the military and into an internship position at the laboratory. There he was able to continue his Bachelor of Science in Biology while gaining hands on experience and education in multiple forensic science disciplines. Once he graduated, he commissioned as a deputy and worked in detention until his current position became open.
